We are pleased to announce that on January 31st we will implement a Patient Portal through which you can access:
- Your child’s immunization history
- Your child’s medication list according to our records
- A visit summary of your child’s most recent visit
- Your child’s laboratory results
In order to ensure the privacy of your child’s sensitive medical information, a parent or legal guardian will be required to enroll their children in the office. This cannot be initiated online or over the phone. Our staff will be able to quickly and easily enroll children when they come for their regularly scheduled well exams or at sick visits. You can enroll all of your children at one visit and do not need to make a separate appointment for each child.
We have spent a considerable amount of time and effort on the issue of balancing the confidentiality of our adolescent patients with the need for parental supervision of their teenagers’ health and well-being. When the time is right, your teen will be given their own Patient Portal username and password. This will give them secure access to their medical records on the Portal.
This Patient Portal is another way that Waterman Pediatrics is working to improve the care we provide to our patients. We believe it will be a worthwhile way for you to review your child’s health information and stay current on their health status.
We are interested in hearing from our patients about your use of the Patient Portal. Please send your thoughts or questions to feedback@coastaldocs.com or call (866) 779-3655.
The physicians and staff of Coastal Waterman Pediatrics are conducting a survey to help us deliver the best possible pediatric care for your children. We are proud of the service we provide, but we know we're not perfect. We want to hear about the areas of our practice that need improvement and how we might better serve you and your children. We would greatly appreciate your participation in this survey and assure you that all responses are anonymous and will only be used for practice improvement purposes.

Update 12/18/11
Weekday flu clinics have now been scheduled through the end of the winter influenza season. Click on the link below to schedule a time for your children. We will also provide flu vaccines at your child's regularly scheduled office visits throughout the Winter. The clinics will have all three available types of vaccine:
- FluMist for children 2 years and older who do not have high-risk conditions*
- “Baby” flu vaccine for children 6-35 months of age (injected)
- Injected flu vaccine for children 3 years and older with high-risk conditions*
*High-risk conditions include:
- Asthma
- Diabetes
- Congenital heart disease
- Chronic kidney disease
- Immune deficiency (or someone in the house in an immunocompromised state)
The number of vaccine doses your child needs this year depends on his age at the time the first dose is given and his flu vaccine history.
- Children 6 months through 8 years of age should get 2 doses if they did not get a flu vaccine last year and 1 dose if they did.
- Children 9 years and older need only 1 dose.
Everyone should get the flu vaccine each year to update their protection because
protection from the flu vaccine lasts for about 6 to 12 months.
If your child goes to school in Rhode Island, your school will be hosting a clinic. They will be able to provide both FluMist and injectable flu vaccines. The dates and times for these clinics can be found on the RI Department of Health website.
Flu Clinic Sign-up
You MUST be a patient of Waterman Pediatrics to sign up.
You do not need to indicate at signup which vaccine you would like; we will determine that at the time of the visit.
Infant Acetaminophen (Tylenol) Concentration Change
Recently there has been a change in the concentration of Infant Tylenol™, also called acetaminophen.
Infant Tylenol will now be the same concentration as Children’s Tylenol which is 160 mg per 5 mL. This is a change from the previous concentration of 80 mg per 0.8 mL. This change was made to reduce the risk of overdoses due to mix-ups between Infant Tylenol and Children’s Tylenol products. The new product will be less concentrated, meaning you will have to give more Infant’s Tylenol to achieve the same dose.
Beginning in 2012, Infant Tylenol 80 mg per 0.8 ml may no longer be available in stores. Please be aware that during the transition, both formulas may be available on store shelves and in your home. The new Infant Tylenol concentration will have different dosing directions for children under 2 years of age.
The new bottle will have a protective opening and push-in syringe, instead of a dropper. The syringe will help to provide more accurate dosing and easier administration to infants.
Our medication dosage calculator has been updated to reflect these dosing changes but please, do not hesitate to call us if you have questions or concerns. We will provide dosing instructions based on the concentration that you have in your home. When you call, please advise us of the concentration that you have so that we can determine the correct dosing instructions.

HealthyChildren.org now has an exciting new interactive tool, KidsDoc Symptom Checker, to help parents evaluate their child's symptoms. Based on Pediatric Telephone Protocols, by Barton D. Schmitt, MD, FAAP, the KidsDoc Symptom Checker allows parents to choose from a wide range of symptoms, then follow the symptom decision chart to determine the appropriate action to take, whether it be home care or a trip to the emergency room.
